How to maintain your aluminum frames to keep them looking like new?

Aluminum frames are renowned for their durability, modern aesthetics, and low maintenance requirements. However, like any element exposed to outdoor conditions, they deserve a minimum of attention to maintain their appearance and optimal functionality for many years.

Why maintain your aluminum frames?

Even though aluminum is a material resistant to corrosion, UV rays, and bad weather, dust, pollution, rain residue, and airborne particles can, over time, dull its shine or damage its mechanisms.

Regular maintenance allows you to:

  • Preserve the aesthetics of your profiles.
  • Extend their lifespan.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of opening mechanisms.
  • Prevent deterioration and costly repairs.

How often should you clean them?

We recommend cleaning your aluminum frames at least twice a year, ideally in the spring and autumn. If you live near the sea, in an industrial area, or in a highly polluted urban zone, quarterly maintenance is preferable.

Which products should you use?

Use maintenance products specifically designed for lacquered or anodized aluminum. We work with Novatio products, which offer a complete range of gentle cleaners that protect surface treatments.

❌Avoid:

  • Abrasive products
  • Acidic or alkaline detergents
  • Metal sponges or overly rough scouring pads

Steps for effective cleaning

  1. Dust the frames with a soft cloth or a soft-bristled brush. If you have a blower, that’s even better!
  2. Clean with a soft sponge or cloth. Use lukewarm water and a pH-neutral soap.
  3. Rinse with clean water to remove all soap residue.
  4. Dry thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth to prevent streaks.

What about seals and mechanisms?

  • The seals: Inspect them regularly to ensure they are not dried out or damaged. You can apply a silicone-based lubricant to keep them flexible and extend their effectiveness.
  • The mechanisms: Moving parts such as hinges and locks should be lubricated once a year with a non-corrosive oil.
